Missed opportunities for Asian BPO Companies

While the Asian BPO companies had pioneered the way to business process outsourcing as a separate industry, over the years the same companies tend to lose out to so-called near-shore BPO companies. Interestingly, it is many of the same Asian BPO companies who have now setup base in near-shore to tap the market. However, it seems that the underlying issue may be somewhere. Some of the industry veterans say it is “Cultural similarities & differences” that are more difficult to surmount rather than technical skills. But is it really that the challenge is that big that it can’t be overcome or is it the industry leaders can’t seem to leverage the right side of their cranium either due to ignorance, effort involved or most critically lackadaisical attitude. Honestly, I have seen only a few examples of half-hearted initiatives to bridge the cultural differences. Would like to hear some more examples as well as your point of view on the topic.
